Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons salted butter
  • melted
  • plus more for tin
  • 12 fresh wonton wrappers
  • 12 small strips of paper with handwritten fortunes
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • A 12-cup muffin tin

Instructions

  1. 1

    Preheat oven to 350°F.

  2. 2

Lightly grease muffin tin with butter.

  3. 3

Working with one wonton wrapper at a time, place one folded fortune in the center of the wrapper.

  4. 4

Dip your fingers into a small bowl of cool water and lightly wet all four edges of the wrapper.

  5. 5

Fold in half, gently pressing to seal the edges.

  6. 6

Fold ends of wrapper toward each other to create the shape of a traditional fortune cookie.

  7. 7

Working quickly with a pastry brush, generously brush each wonton wrapper with butter on all sides.

  8. 8

Sprinkle each with 1/2 tsp. sugar, then place in a prepared muffin cup.

  9. 9

    Repeat with remaining wrappers.

  10. 10

Bake cookies, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crisp, 10–12 minutes.

  11. 11

Let cookies cool slightly in tin, then carefully transfer to a wire rack and let cool completely.
